“In Christ, Called to Collaborate”

The theme of our October Diocesan Convention was “In Christ, Called to Collaborate.” Several of the sessions were recorded and can be viewed here.  In summary:

Clergy and delegates of eastern Massachusetts Episcopal congregations, gathered in Diocesan Convention last month, adopted measures to advance ongoing racial justice work in the diocese as well as congregational health and wellness, and they expanded organizational procedures in the diocesan canons to allow for a new category of ‘intentional Episcopal communities.’

We found Bishop Gates’ address especially timely this year. It included a recognition of our parish’s Covenant with Central Reform Temple. He also spoke directly and forcefully to the recent discussions of reparations in our diocese and the resolutions that move the process forward (text & video). As we enter the Advent season, the time of waiting and preparation, the convention’s scripture citation (Ephesians 4:15-16) invites us to reflect on how and why we join together in hope and love to welcome Jesus into our midst.

Speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.
