Rector’s Stall

Rice Memorial PlaqueGiven in 1899 in memory of Henry Parker Quincy (1838-1899) by Mary Adams Quincy, granddaughter of John Quincy Adams.

Eagle Lectern

Copied from one in the Church of St. Stephen the Martyr, Parish of Westminster (London), which was destroyed in the Blitz, in Dec. 1940, it was given in 1899 in memory of Caroline Marie (Welch Crowninshield) Arnold by her husband Howard Payson Arnold.  The agates encircling its column are pictured at the top of this page.

Pulpit

By Henry Vaughan  (1845-1917), it was given in 1898 in memory of Alexander Hamilton Rice (1818-1895), Mayor of Boston, Governor of MA, and U.S. Congressman.

Reredos

Rotch reredosDesigned by Francis R. Allen and executed by John Evans and Domingo Mora, it was given in 1899 in memory of Benjamin Smith Rotch, Annie Bigelow Rotch, Edith Rotch, and Arthur Rotch by Aimee Rotch (Mrs. Winthrop) Sargent.  Its depiction of the Last Supper is flanked by statues of St. Peter and Mary Magdalene (left) and the Virgin Mary and St. John, the Beloved Disciple (right) and surmounted by the Risen Christ flanked by angels.  See more.

Bust with Stone TabletsHuntington bust

By Bela Lyon Pratt (1867-1917), whose other local sculptures include Science in front of Boston Public Library and Edward Everett Hale in the Public Garden, it was given in 1904 in memory of The Rev. Dr. Frederic Dan Huntington (1819-1904, our first rector, 1860-1869).  He has worn many hats including this pink one, which he received for the Boston Women’s March in 2017.

Sanctuary Doors with Silhouetted Angels

Hand carved in oak and overlaid with gold by Wm. F. Ross Co. under the direction of Allen, Collins and Willis, it was given in 1936 in memory of George Hawley (1869- 1934) by his widow.

ArkGiven in 2007 by members of Boston Jewish Spirit, now Central Reform Temple.

Bronze Bas Relief

By Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1848-1907), who also created the Robert Gould Shaw Memorial on Boston Common and the statue of The Rev. Phillips Brooks at Trinity Church, Copley Square, it was given in memory of The Rev. Dr. Alexander Hamilton Vinton (1807-1881; our second rector, 1869-1877).

Given by Mr. & Mrs. Edward Jackson Holmes,  grandson of Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes (1809-1894) and nephew of Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. (1841-1935).

Steinway Piano

Donated by John Hsia, it was originally given by Boston Symphony Orchestra founder Henry Higginson to his niece, who gave it to John and Constance Hsia as a wedding gift.
