19. Evangelists Matthew, Mark & Luke. The band of New Testament figures running from the alcove over the Sacristy door back along the north clerestory was designed by Charles Eames Kempe, were given in 1902 by Cornelia A. French in memory of her brother John Davis Williams French (1841-1900). He had served as treasurer and senior warden of Emmanuel’s mission Church of the Good Shepherd, Boston.
20. Nicodemus, the Woman of Samaria & the Centurion of Capernum by Kempe (memorial details in #19). Boston Globe 9 Dec. 1901 described them as “three people to whom Christ spoke”.21. Evangelists: Matthew, Mark & Luke by Kempe (memorial details in #19 above).
22. Disciples: Andrew, Philip & Nathaniel, by Kempe ((memorial details in #19 above).
23. Magi: Melchior, Balthasar & Caspar by Kempe (memorial details in #19 above).
24. Nativity Group: St. John the Baptist, the Archangel Gabriel & the Virgin Mary. This Kempe window in our organ loft was covered in 1917 but could be revealed if it were backlit.
25. Burnham Window by Heaton, Butler & Bayne, given in 1900 by William Appleton Burnham in memory of his daughter Marian (1884-1896), depicts Mary Magdalene.
26. Emmanuel’s Land Window by Frederic Crowninshield, given in memory of his mother Caroline Marie Welch (Mrs. Howard Payson) Arnold (1820-1897), depicts Piety (flanked by Discretion, Prudence & Charity) showing Pilgrim the way to Emmanuel’s Land (see banner image above).
27. St. Michael Killing the Dragon by Kempe was given in 1901 by Caroline F. Osborn Warren in memory of her husband Frederick Warren, Jr., owner of the Warren steamship line.
28. Incredulity of St. Thomas by Tiffany Glass was given by George von Lengerke Meyer (1858-1918) in memory of his father George Augustus Meyer (1824-1889). Beneath a roundel the left lancet depicts Christ and the right, Thomas with his words, “My Lord and my God!” inscribed.
