About 25 years ago we spotted a headline on the front page of the Boston Globe stating, “Historic church in Back Bay is about to close and become a concert hall”. We greeted this semi-accurate and hyperbolic announcement with great joy! It prompted us to investigate and soon to embrace Emmanuel as our church home.
Although the cantatas were then, and remain, a sustained source of spiritual and aesthetic enrichment, we were equally drawn to Emmanuel’s mission and spiritual guidance, first from Bill Wallace and now from Pam. Betsy served as senior warden under Bill’s tenure, and Frank more recently served as one of Pam’s junior wardens. We both feel that we gained far more from these experiences than we gave. It has also been wonderfully gratifying to see that our church has greatly expanded its social outreach and has gained a leadership role in the diocese. It is truly remarkable that during the last 20 troubling months of Covid, Emmanuel has more than maintained its momentum in all aspects of church life. We are very grateful.
