Emmanuel Church has a long history of being involved in helping people recover from addiction. The Emmanuel Movement, which ran from 1905-1929 as an outreach program for Bostonians suffering from tuberculosis, alcoholism, and other conditions, developed ways to help people recover their health through individual psychotherapy and group sessions. For more information about this groundbreaking effort of The Rev. Dr. Elwood Worcester, The Rev. Dr. Samuel McComb, and their parishioners, please see Wikipedia and our Timeline entries for 1905, 1909, and 1919.
